On 6-8 April, Year 11 Covie student Finn Cantrill competed in the first race of the World Championship Downhill Skateboarding for 2018. The race was held
at the Mount Panorama race track in Bathurst. There were competitors from 13 countries, including the current world champion and two of the top three
riders in the world. Finn competed for the title of No 1 Junior in the World Rankings.
Out of the 70 riders competing, Finn was placed 26th overall in the time trials. Finn was leading the Juniors in times all weekend, but racing is tactical
and very different from time trials. A few riders crashed in their quarter and semi-finals and so couldn’t continue further as only the first two progressed.
However, in the Junior final (anyone under 18), Finn placed 1st!!! Definitely must have been the new skate shoes.
