Over the last 40 years, Covenant Christian School has seen vast changes to its classrooms, facilities and playgrounds. We are grateful to God for the provision
of our buildings and outdoor areas which have met the needs of the students and staff so well.
The school started in a rented cottage in Terrey Hills in 1978. The very first classroom was built on the school site in 1979 for primary classes,
while Infants continued at Terrey Hills. The Building Committee, led by Bernhard Vanderstelt, worked with Reitsma Constructions in the early years
of the school to ensure that the first six buildings were designed and built to meet the needs of our school. Both the Vanderstelt and Reitsma families
had their children at Covenant, and worked tirelessly with the help of parent volunteers serving on the Building Committee.
In 1980, B Block was opened for Kindergarten-Year 7 students, bringing all students to the one location. Another great step forward was taken in 2002 with
the opening of the School Hall, as assemblies had been held outside until then. Since 2006, the school’s physical environment has been thoroughly transformed.
The Preschool opened that year, followed by the opening of the Infants building (A Block) in 2010.
K Block opened in 2013 providing classrooms, the Junior Library and the Performing Arts Space. 2013 also saw Café Covie move to where it is today,
and open five days per week. More classrooms, meeting rooms and an additional staffroom were opened in 2014, and in 2016 our new TAS classrooms and
science labs were opened. Last year saw the commencement of the C Block construction, which will provide additional Junior classrooms and accommodate
our school executive and administration.
We are very grateful for the people who have worked to provide and maintain our buildings. In the video above, Bernhard Vanderstelt shares some of
this journey with us.
