Over the past ten years, Covenant Christian School has built or refurbished over 30 classrooms. During this time, our student enrolments have increased
by 180 students, and as a result we have required more teaching staff and non-teaching staff as well.
These very welcome increases in both student and staff numbers have placed strain on our current administrative and executive facilities, to the point
where they are no longer adequate. In response to this, the Board has recently approved the commencement of the construction of Stage 3 of the
Master Plan for the end of Term 3 2017; a new building for administration staff and some additional classrooms. On the ground floor level, this
development will consist of five Junior School classrooms, including an Art room, Music room, three Year 6 classrooms, staff office, and Education
Support facilities. The first floor level will house our administrative staff, including the School’s Main Reception, Student Reception, Sick Bay,
Finance team, Executive Offices and Boardroom.
Robust discussion, much prayerful consideration of alternatives and detailed modelling from the Finance Committee were involved in making this
decision. Ultimately, while the timing of this new building is unfortunate in light of the recent Gonski 2.0 reforms and the reduction it is
likely to create in Government Funding, the need is urgent, our school is in a financially stable position, able to proceed, and we believe
the approach we have taken is the right one. Proceeding now was judged to be the least disruptive to students.
Covenant will continue to provide affordable Christian education. We have already looked closely at the costs of the planned construction;
minimising where possible without compromising the overall needs of the space required, and costs have already been reduced relative to
the initial plan.
Please continue to pray for the School Executive and the Board as planning continues for the new building that we trust will be a wonderful
facility for many years to come.
