It is our pleasure to introduce another one of our incredibly hardworking, yet slightly less well-known members of staff.
Let's get to know Mrs Ping Chen, Café Covie Barista and Catering Assistant at Covenant Christian School.
Tell us about your family. I am married to Joseph and have two grown-up sons (Jo and Jono). Last year, God blessed us with a wonderful
daughter-in-law who has brought lots of joy to my family.
Tell us about your role at school? I work as a Café Covie Barista and Catering Assistant. I also serve as a PeaceWise Covenant Hub
What is PeaceWise and how did you come to be involved in it? PeaceWise is a Christian ministry which provides help and hope for
handling conflict in God’s way and builds a culture of peace. In 2009 I went to PeaceWise training at Covenant, and then other training courses the
following year. I recently had the privilege of co-leading the ‘Resolving Everyday Conflict’ course for the school community with Richard Grey.
What is your coffee order? Soy Flat White or Soy Chai Latte (the Chai powder from Café Covie is superb!)
Apart from the milk and coffee, tell us what else goes into a ‘Ping-made coffee’? It's always flavoured with my prayer and I
ask God to bless and sustain each one according to their circumstances.
Tell us how you came to know the Lord Jesus. 29 years ago I came to Australia and only knew one friend who just happened to be a Christian.
I followed her to church and was touched by the love of a group of loving Christians. Shortly, they shared the gospel with me and I decided to give
my life to Jesus. But my faith started to grow when I started reading the Bible.
What is something you’ve had to unlearn? With only one grown son living with me now, I have started to unlearn my “feeding more”
grocery shopping in this new season of my life.
What are some small things that makes your day better? Kids enjoying my babyccino; parents praying together and forming a friendship
at Café Covie; people who come back for a second coffee because of good coffee….
What TV series do you enjoy watching? I am a great fan of Agatha Christie, particularly “Murder on the Orient Express” played
by David Suchet.
