As part of Covenant's Extension and Enrichment program, a team of students competed at the recent da Vinci Decathlon which included over 1600 students
from other schools.
Angela Asikin (Year 8) filed the following report:
Bubbling chatter filled the bus as the Year 8 team from Covenant Christian School entered the massive gates of Knox Grammar School on 22 May. We arrived
there to compete in an academic gala day against approximately sixty other schools in ten disciplines: Ideation, Mathematics, Art & Poetry, Creative
Producers, English, Cartography, Science, Engineering, Code Breaking and General Knowledge. The theme was “The Unexpected”. Covie teams from Year 6,
7, 9 and 10 also attended throughout the week.
Throughout the whole day, we raced to answer puzzling questions we had never encountered before. We faced ‘unexpected’ problems, and many times we were
completely stumped! We were mentally exhausted at the end of the day, but it was such a fun and unique experience.
The highlight of the day for the Year 8 team was the awards ceremony. The whole team sat there around the circular table, half-listening to the announcer
as he read out the results. Then, all of a sudden, we thought we heard our name being called: “In Science, second place goes to Covenant Christian
School!” This was completely unexpected! We finished the day with beaming faces and a great sense of accomplishment. The da Vinci Decathlon was truly
a fun, memorable and challenging experience.
Congratulations to all the students who represented Covenant at the Decathlon. Well done!
