The Community Freezer originated from a desire to show God's love, in a practical way, to our school community. Its aim is to provide meals to families who find themselves in challenging times. If you are able to cook for the freezer, please pack a meal into disposable freezer containers and label the ingredients clearly. Please text Lisa Tong to arrange drop off at Cafe Covie in the morning on 0402 229 708.
One Covenant parent shares her experience of the generosity that comes from the Community Freezer.
A few years ago when my children were still in Infants and we were relatively new to the Covie community, we went through a particularly stressful, trying time as a family. My husband had a life-altering diagnosis, he was retrenched from his full-time position and spent the next two years looking for work. To add to this my husband then went on to have further unrelated health complications. At this time when we felt as though our world was falling apart and we were struggling to survive, the Covie community totally enfolded us and sustained us through this period. One of the most simple, yet effective ways in which this was done was through the Community freezer. At a time when I didn’t have the strength, energy (or finances) to feed my family, I was totally blown away by the support we received in very practical terms through the Community Freezer. My fridge was overflowing and meals were one less thing for me to think about. What also struck me was not only the fact that we had food on our table but also the strong sense that we were not “doing it alone” - we had the love, support and prayers of the wider Covie family behind us.
